The Vitamin D screening test determines how much vitamin D is in your blood. Getting enough vitamin D is important for healthy bones, a healthy immune system and for muscle function. Early detection is important for avoiding fatigue, weak bones and other health issues, and to allow for treatment.
Process
- You will have your blood drawn from your arm.
- The blood is collected by a trained technician and can be done at home or at the office, depending on where you live.

When to Get Tested
Testing is usually recommended when you have risk factors such as limited access to sunlight, darker skin, obesity and/or digestive problems like Crohn’s disease, or if you are experiencing symptoms like fatigue or bone aches/pains.

Understanding Your Result
Normal vitamin D levels are between 30 and 100 ng/mL. Levels below 20 ng/mL indicate deficiency. You may either need to take supplements or change your diet under the supervision of a medical professional for your low vitamin D.
