The Serum Triglycerides Test is a simple blood test that examines the amount of triglycerides (a type of fat) in one’s blood. Process
- A healthcare provider will clean the arm and insert a small needle into a vein.
- Blood will be drawn into a tube and sent to the laboratory.
- The same site will then receive a bandage after the healthcare provider places some gentle pressure on the puncture wound.
When to Get Tested
One could have this test done if the healthcare provider suspects one may be at risk for heart disease, diabetes, or obesity, or if this test is part of a routine health screening. Test Preparation
Most of the time fasting for 8–12 hours (meaning you will need to refrain from eating) prior to the test will be required. If you drink alcohol make sure to avoid alcohol for 24 hours prior to testing so that you receive accurate test results.
