The Routine Stool Examination (Stool R/E) is a non-invasive test. It can be done easily by collecting samples of a stool that can be used to detect infections, inflammation, bleeding, or other problems in the digestive tract. It can help identify possible causes of symptoms including diarrhea, stomach pain, and blood in stool by identifying if there are parasitic infections or bacterial infections – or abnormal substances found within the stool sample.
Process
- Collect a fresh stool sample in a sterile container provided by your doctor
- In the lab visual inspection for color, consistency, and the presence of other features will be done.
- We analyze the sample for the presence of infections, blood, fat, or mucus.
When to get tested
Consider getting tested when you have ongoing diarrhea or abdominal pain, or blood or mucus in your stool, or any unexplained weight loss or fever. It is particularly useful if the symptoms continue or worsen as the test will ultimately help to establish a cure for patient symptoms.
Sample Type
A sample of fresh stool (about 3-5 grams) must be collected in a clean, sterile container.
Test Preparation

Understanding Your Results
Normal test results will show no evidence of an infection or abnormal products found in the stool sample. However, if parasites, blood, or inflammation are detected, your healthcare provider may recommend further tests or treatment.
