The Glucose Estimation Extended, 5 Hours Test (aka Kraft 5-Hour Glucose and Insulin Tolerance Test) is performed to assess the speed of sugar metabolism and insulin production. It alerts for the very early onset of insulin resistance or even type 2 diabetes-that is, even before symptoms manifest. This test, therefore, is crucial towards averting long-term health issues and initiating timely therapy.
Process
- You will fast overnight and have your first blood sample taken in the morning.
- A sweet glucose drink is given, followed by blood samples taken every hour for five hours.
- Each sample is tested for both glucose and insulin levels to track your body's response.
When to Get Tested
The test is done if you present risk factors for diabetes, with a family history, obese, with PCOS, or during investigations for otherwise unexplained exhaustion, low blood sugar episodes, or signs of metabolic imbalance. It is further helpful when unexplainable fatigue, low blood sugar nylon, or symptoms of metabolic imbalance are experienced.

Test Preparation

Understanding Your Results
The results show how your glucose and insulin levels are increasing and/or decreasing. A normal pattern shows that your glucose/insulin will return to baseline after a few hours. The interpretation of your results will show that you have delayed insulin response, excessive insulin response or not, all of which may show you have insulin resistance.
