Process
- A healthcare provider draws a sample of blood from your arm.
- The sample will be tested for creatinine, which is filtered out of the blood by the kidneys.
- Your age, sex, and other information will be used to estimate your kidney filtering capacity (eGFR).
When to Get Tested
You should consider getting a GFR test if you have diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, or have a family history of kidney disease. It is also recommended that you get a GFR test if you are over the age of 50, or if you are at risk for developing chronic kidney disease.
