A Differential Leucocyte Count (DLC) test measures different types of white blood cells in your blood. White cells help your body fight infection and support your immune system. Process
- A blood sample is taken typically from a vein in your arm.
- The blood is then spread on a slide and stained so that the different types of white blood cells can be seen
- The white blood cells are then counted and recorded either with a machine or by hand.
When to Get Tested
A Differential Leucocyte Count (DLC) is used when you have symptoms such as cough, fatigue, fever, weakness or frequent infections. It can also be used to monitor patients with chronic illnesses or to assess your immune system function prior to or during treatment.
Sample Type
Typically a blood sample of 2 – 5 ml would be taken from a vein.
