The Diabetes Panel 1 Test is a series of blood tests that can help assist in the diagnosis and monitoring of diabetes. It assesses blood sugar levels in individuals both while fasting and following meals, HbA1c (average 3-month period of sugar), kidney function health, and cholesterol levels. This test is valuable, because it not only can identify diabetes or diabetes (prediabetes) earlier in the process, but it can help the management of diabetes and the prevention of complications of diabetes, for example, heart or kidney disease.
Process
- A blood sample was obtained after a 12-hour fast.
- A second blood sample was obtained after eating (2 hours).
- The laboratory will analyze the samples to assess glucose, HbA1c, cholesterol, urea, and creatinine levels.
When to get tested
If you are experiencing symptoms of frequent urination, excessive thirst, feeling tired, you should consider getting tested at this point. It is also recommended for individuals with a family history for diabetes, obesity, or high blood pressure. Test Preparation
At least a 12-hour overnight fast is necessary. You must not eat or drink anything other than water during the fasting period.
