The Diabetes Panel Basic Test is an evaluation that consists of both blood and urine tests and is intended to assist healthcare providers with diagnosing diabetes and measuring blood sugar levels, as well as evaluating diabetes-related complications (e.g., kidney function). It overviews how the body manages sugar levels.
Process
- At least 8 hours prior to blood from your fasting blood sample, the collection of this sample will be assessed.
- A second blood sample collected 2 hours after a meal (2 hour post prandial) will measure blood sugar levels after eating.
- Subsequently, there may be urine and additional blood specimens taken, to evaluate your kidney status and the general state of your blood.
When to Get Tested
Testing is appropriate if you are experiencing symptoms of diabetes; such as increased thirst, greater than usual urination, increased fatigue or lethargy, or some other concerns suggestive of diabetes; if you have significant risk factors for diabetes; such as obesity, increased waist circumference, family history of diabetes, etc.; and/or if you are likely to be screened for diabetes after 45 years of age as a routine test.

The test requires urine and blood samples.
Test Preparation
You must fast for at least 8 hours before the fasting blood sugar test. Fasting is not required for other aspects of the panel.
