Chloride test is used to test for chloride, an important electrolyte in your blood or urine. Chloride helps balance body fluids, maintain normal blood pressure, and plays a role in muscle and nerve functions. Measuring chloride levels is useful for diagnosing conditions like dehydration, kidney disease, or acid-base imbalances, or hormonal disorders. It is also useful in monitoring chronic health conditions, or the effect of medication for example, diuretics.
Process
- A small blood sample or urine sample is taken by a phlebotomist.
- The sample is delivered to the lab for testing.
- Chloride levels are measured based on a standard chemical analysis.
When to get the Test
