The Calcium Serum test assesses your blood calcium level. Calcium is important for healthy bones, muscle movement, nerve function, and blood clotting. Process
- A phlebotomist obtains a blood sample from a vein in your arm.
- The sample will be sent to a laboratory where the serum will be separated.
- Calcium levels in serum will be analyzed in the laboratory using either standard colorimetric or enzymatic methods.
When to Get Tested
It is reasonable to have this test if you have symptoms of muscle cramps, fatigue, numbness, bone pain, or irregular heart beats. It is also recommended if you have previously experienced conditions associated with calcium, or whenever you have a routine evaluation of health.
