The beta hCG test shows the hormone called human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) in one’s blood. The body produces hCG during pregnancy. A beta hCG test can tell whether the woman is pregnant as early as 10 days after conception, and can also monitor the health of early pregnancy. The beta hCG test can detect an ectopic pregnancy and it can monitor the decline of hCG if one is having a miscarriage. It is less commonly used to help in the diagnosis of some cancers.
